Niya nearly toppled over when Doeteain flung himself at him, but as the other's arms wrapped around him, he quickly returned the embrace. He loved hugs. They were probably some of his favorite things ever.
"Thank you," Doeteain kept repeating, "Thank you so much."
Suddenly, though, the other pulled back quickly, wiping at his eyes. Niya rolled his eyes; as if he minded the fact that he had been crying. He was sure he'd be crying, too, if he'd been through the same sort of ordeal as this guy.
"Oh no," Doeteain suddenly said, fear on his face and in his voice,"What if-- what if your captain doesn't want me there? I mean-- I'm really not all that useful or anything..."
Niya snorted. "One, you're not useless. You healed me with a single tear. Second, Mae doesn't care about that, even if you were. She'll probably act like she doesn't like you at first, but that's just how she is. She treats all of us that way, and everyone's welcome to join our crew. When she found me..."
Niya paused and cast back in his memory. To his first real memory, when he'd been found by the Chimera and taken in. He wasn't sure if he'd had much of a home before that. He really couldn't remember. "When she found me, I was absolutely useless. I didn't know how to do anything. Hell, I didn't even know who I was. But she let me stay, gave me a home, a family, taught me how to do all the things I can do now. She won't turn you away, Doe. I promise."
He smiled at Doeteain. "But you might want to retract your wings. I don't want any of the crew getting nervous, and it seems like they might hurt less when they're put away, right? Now let's get out of here. I really don't fancy getting hanged."
