"I'll come with you," Niya said, and Doeteain's face lit up. "But just remember to be careful. I don't want to see you all broken at the foot of a tree, now do I? Where should we start climbing at?"
The cloak in one arm, Doeteain held Niya's hand tightly. "We'll go where Condir took me," he explained, pulling him quickly in that direction. "You'll like it. It's better than the Crow's Nest." He didn't stop moving until after they'd gone up the stairs, and even then, it was for a reason. The moment he released Niya's hand, he dropped the cloak and began pulling off his shirt. After all, he couldn't fly if his wings were pinned against his back. But as soon as his back was bare, save for the black outline that marked him as an Evariic, he was ready to move again.
"Follow me," he told Niya, soon winding his way up and through the branches. He somehow remembered the exact path Condir had shown him, and in no time, he was back above everything, staring down at the beautiful city of Vysvada. It was gorgeous. Still, he yearned to soar through it, between it, above it.
Taking a deep breath, Doe unfurled his wings. It felt nice, the sun beating down on them. He felt better now that the cloak and shirts were gone, too, because they were too warm and too restrictive. The sun's rays caressed his shoulders, giving his otherwise pallid skin a bit of a glow it hadn't had before. (Although Doe didn't know it, the Evariic tanned easily, and weren't prone to sunburns.) It felt good.
With seemingly no warning, Doeteain suddenly stepped off the branch. Gravity took hold more suddenly and more impressively than he'd expected, and he flapped his wings as hard as he could.
That... didn't go so well.
He crashed into a nearby branch, slamming his thigh against the outstretched limb and crashing one of his wings against the trunk. Luckily enough, he managed to turn onto the branch so that he didn't tumble all the way to the ground. Gasping, Doeteain moved to a sitting position and gave his wing an experimental wave. Although it stung, it seemed none the worse for wear. And even if it had seemed hindered, Doeteain didn't know if he would have stopped. He had to do this.
He stood again and took another breath. He knew what to expect now. Determined, he leapt from the tree, closed his eyes, and gave it his best. The wind whizzed past him, and he whizzed forward. His eyes snapped open when he realized that he wasn't falling, but instead hurtling toward a branch. With a great flap of his wings, he soared above it, weaving between branches like he'd been doing it his whole life.
"I'm flying," he breathed. It didn't even sound real to his ears. "I'm doing it..." As he swooped by Niya, he couldn't contain a whoop. "I'm flying!"

When Doeteain had leapt from the bough of the tree and fell, Niya had nearly jumped forward after him. Not that it would have done either of them much good, as he wasn't able to fly. It was mostly just reflex; he couldn't bear to see anything happen to Doe and he had wanted to catch him, break his fall, anything but sit there and wait for it to happen.
Thankfully, though, Doe was caught by a branch and seemed uninjured. Niya let out a slow breath of relief. "What did I tell you about being careful?" he called down to Doe, but the Evariic seemed inclined to ignore him and just stood up, dusting himself off.
Next thing he knew, Doe jumped off again. Niya, in fear, closed his eyes, but a sound gave him pause and slowly, he cracked one eye open, and then the other. His jaw promptly went slack.
Doeteain was flying. He was really and truly flying. He seemed ecstatic, and called out, "I'm flying!"
Niya laughed and clapped his hands. "Great job, Doe!" he called, "You're a natural!"
A large smile was splitting his face; Niya couldn't help it. He didn't know why, but seeing Doe so free, so happy...it filled him with warm, happy feelings.
In fact, Niya wasn't sure what his happiest moment would involve. But being here for this? Well, it got pretty close to being that. Doeteain deserved to be this free; he deserved to fly. He had gotten his happiest moment, and for whatever reason, Niya couldn't help but feel like he'd been given a very rare and wonderful pleasure by being able to witness it. He felt like he was sharing in this moment. As if he somehow had a stake in it.
But unfortunately, it reminded him of something: he might not ever get to see this again. He might not ever get to see Doe again after that night. Tomorrow, the pirates would probably be leaving Vysvada. And Doeteain might elect to stay here, with Condir.
And Niya didn't want him to go.

((Sorry this is so crap. XD I'm tired and stuff. <3))
"Great job, Doe! You're a natural!"
Doeteain swooped around for another minute or so before he returned to Niya, his feet landing on the smooth bark a little too hard. His knees nearly gave out, and he stumbled, but he quickly straightened with a broad smile on his face. He was panting, his cheeks tinged pink from the exertion, but he was exuberant. He'd never been this happy before in his life, actually. And it was all thanks to Niya. For the second time since meeting Niya, Doeteain flung his arms about the pirate and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you," Doe murmured, "For-- for everything." For even thinking he was worth saving in the first place...
And hugging Niya, just moments after he'd flown for the first time, Doeteain didn't find it difficult to make his decision. He wanted to be wherever Niya was. And, although the thought of returning to the water still gave him chills, that didn't exclude the S.S. Chimera. Besides... with Niya there, it hadn't been too bad. He still didn't like it by any means, but it was bearable. In fact, it was just about worth it.
It took all Doe's strength to end the hug, feeling a little embarrassed but still unable to wipe the smile off his face. And why should he? He was happy for once.
He stooped to pick up his clothes, although he only draped them over his arm. He didn't want to retract his wings just yet; he'd wait to do that until they were almost to dinner, and he'd dress then. For now, he just wanted to enjoy the feeling of the sun on his skin or the feeling of spreading his wings.
"So," Doe said, lacing his fingers through Niya's, "I guess... we should go to dinner now?"

When Doe landed, his face tinged pink and the brightest smile Niya had ever seen, Niya had been unable to stop himself from returning the grin. And then, he had his arms full of the Evariic, who had suddenly embraced him.
Niya laughed and returned the embrace, holding him close for a moment. "Thank you," Doe murmured, "For-- for everything."
"I didn't do anything," Niya said as Doeteain slowly released the hug. "That was all you, and you did wonderfully. You're really something special, you know that?"
"So," Doe said, lacing his fingers through Niya's, "I guess... we should go to dinner now?"
Niya nodded. "Probably. I can't imagine the elves will mind us being late, being immortal and time being of no consequence, but Maelyn might. Let's go."
Cheerfully, he lead Doeteain away from the treetops and to the feasting hall. It was filled with several different peoples from all over Samadhi, and there was dancing and singing and food everywhere he looked, so before going inside, he stopped.
"Might want to get dressed before we go in there. I don't really know how proper it is considered to run about bare-chested, but I imagine it might not be such a great," Niya said light-heartedly. Seeing Doe flying...it had made him feel lighter somehow. Almost as if he had been flying.
Either way, he really hoped he'd get to see it again. As he waited for Doe to put on his shirt, Niya's eyes peeked into one of the windows of the feasting hall, landing on Condir. He was suddenly very glad he'd stopped to ask Doe to put on his shirt. The elf-noble might get naughty ideas if he saw Doeteain without all his clothes on.
Once Doe was ready, Niya took a deep breath, and then lead them inside.

Soooo I was gonna cram more Condir into here, but this took long enough. XDD So I'll do a separate post for him later. <3
Doeteain kept smiling, complacently following Niya to the feast. Just as they reached it, Niya dropped his hand and paused, saying, "Might want to get dressed before we go in there. I don't really know how proper it is considered to run about bare-chested, but I imagine it might not be such a great."
Doeteain didn't bother explaining he'd planned on that, and instead silently retracted his wings before pulling on the shirt; he still felt warm, though, so he left the cloak draped over his arm. Next to him, he felt Niya inhale deeply, and then they entered.
It was astounding. There were people, everywhere, all different races and cultures, and the festivities were joyous, and everything was just very, very shocking to Doeteain. Ciimre had had its events, of course, that he'd seen when he was younger, but never anything like this. The crowds had been reserved, more often than not, and had tended to consist of humans. In his time, Doeteain had never seen so many different types of people in one place, and he'd certainly never seen them all having so much fun.
Across the hall, Doe saw Condir spot him, and the elf noble seemed to question whether he'd made the decision or not. He had... he just still couldn't determine whether it was the "right" one.
Still... taking a deep breath, Doeteain took Niya's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I... need to speak with Condir," he explained. "It-- it might take a minute, but I'll come eat with you..." Having said that, he released the pirate and squirmed through the crowd toward Condir. The elf stood and met him halfway, a light smile on his face. It was nice, seeing such a beautiful person smiling.
"I see you've absorbed some sunlight since we parted," Condir said, brushing his knuckles against Doe's cheek. Doeteain's cheeks flushed, the slight tan he'd achieved making it all the more obvious he was blushing. He lifted Doeteain's hand to his lips, bowing gracefully. "It's quite becoming on you," he murmured against Doe's knuckles.
"I-- um--" Doeteain stammered, trying to find the words. He'd come to see Condir with the intention of rejecting his offer, but he wasn't suited for rejecting. "Condir, I... I thought about what you'd said..."
Condir straightened, his eyes suddenly serious and attentive. "Have you come to a decision, then?"
"I have... I-- I'd like... I mean, I-- I'd really rather... It wasn't an easy choice, but I think that I should... I'd... prefer to stay with the S.S. Chimera."
Condir visibly deflated. Although his posture remained nearly impeccable, there was a slope to his shoulders that hadn't been there before. "I see..."
"I-it's just that, I haven't... I've barely only left my... hometown, I guess you could say... and I-- I'm just-- I don't know how--"
"It's Niya," Condir interrupted, although he wasn't bitter so much as resigned. "Isn't it?"
Sighing, Doe nodded, following Condir's gaze over his shoulder to the other boy. He knew that Niya and he hadn't been together for long at all, but Niya had saved him. Things like that couldn't be overlooked. After all, Niya could have easily left him in the dungeons to rot (or worse). Instead, he'd opted to save him and give him a place to stay. It seemed awful to repay him by leaving a day later.
Besides, Doeteain still didn't understand what Condir-- or anyone, for that matter-- could possibly want from him if not his tears.
"But-- it's not personal-- I just..."
"You can't leave his side. I'd wondered if that would be the case."
"I'm sorry," Doeteain said, feeling it more than ever.
"Don't fret; I'll recover. Now, you shouldn't let him wait so long. Go on."
Doeteain wasn't certain, but he listened regardless, slipping in beside Niya. With an unsure smile, he again squeezed Niya's hand. What could he say, anyway?

"I... need to speak with Condir," Doe said. "It-- it might take a minute, but I'll come eat with you..."
Niya nodded and watched as Doeteain made his way over to the elf noble. He tried not to look for too long, tried hard not to think too much about what Doe was saying. Had he decided to accept Condir's proposal? Probably.
Niya sighed and quickly moved over to where he spotted a few of his crew members, and Maelyn, talking with the other elf-lord, Elhadron, at one of the many tables in the feasting hall.
"Hey," he said as he moved over to them. "Great party." He nodded in El's direction.
The elf offered a light smile; it was obvious he'd completely forgotten about their earlier encounter, or at least, he was doing a damn good job of acting like it. "It is like this every night in Vysvada."
"Oh great. Another reason why this place is bloody perfect."
The light smile faded from El's face. "Have I offended you in some way?"
"No," Niya murmured, "I just...nevermind. Don't worry about it."
Suddenly, Doe slipped in next to him, and Niya turned a smile to him. A moment later, Doeteain squeezed his hand.
"What did you talk to Condir about? Are you planning on...on staying here?" he asked, careful to keep his voice neutral.

Fffff I'm sorry this is so crap. I'lltryharder. "What did you talk to Condir about? Are you planning on...on staying here?"
Doeteain could think of a thousand reasons he should have chosen to stay in Vysvada. After all, it was gorgeous, and the view from the trees beat anything he'd seen since leaving Ciimre (although that, admittedly, wasn't much). Plus, he had a feeling that Condir truly meant nothing more than to make him happy. And yet... something in Doeteain couldn't imagine staying here. It was everything he could have ever dreamed for, but...
But that was what he dreamed for before he had met Niya. Apparently, he just hadn't known what else there was to dream for.
Smiling softly, Doeteain eventually replied, "I told Condir I'd rather stay with you... unless..." Doe bit his lip lightly, his confidence wavering. Maybe Niya had been hoping he would choose to stay at Vysvada. Still, he should have just said that. Doe would have listened to anything he suggested, and that was the pathetic truth. Niya probably knew that... In any case, he'd asked Doeteian to imagine the happiest moment he could, and then they had made that moment happen. Doe wasn't sure, but he felt like he might owe his willingness to even try to Niya.
"W-well... I need a new dream, anyway," he reasoned aloud. "Any ideas...?" He blinked suddenly, and then he paused, looking at Niya. "What would you have imagined?"

((OOC: Mine's crappier.))
"I told Condir I'd rather stay with you... unless..."
"With me?" Niya managed, a wide grin splitting his face. He felt so happy in that moment. Doe wanted to stay with him. Even with all the wonderful things this place offered, all the beautiful sights and beautiful company, and Doe wanted to stay with him?
"W-well... I need a new dream, anyway," Doe reasoned aloud. "Any ideas...?" He blinked suddenly, and then he paused, looking at Niya. "What would you have imagined?"
"As my happiest moment?" Niya asked, and the answer came instantly ,but was surprising to him to say the least: "Honestly? This is pretty much it. I really didn't want you to leave so soon."
"Anyway, there's plenty of time for you to think of a new dream. For now, let's eat." The food was already on the table. Niya quickly filled his plate with the most delicious things he could find and wolfed them all down. When he was finished, he sat back in his seat and watched the various people dancing.
"Hey, Doe..." he said once the Evariic had eaten his fill, "Do you want to dance?"

"As my happiest moment? Honestly? This is pretty much it. I really didn't want you to leave so soon."
Doeteain blushed, but his face lit up with happiness, too. Although the knowledge that Niya actually wanted him to stay took him by surprise, it was definitely a good surprise. He didn't think he'd ever made someone happy just by staying by their side; he hadn't ever really had an option, anyway. But now that he had been given the option, he was glad to know he'd made the right one. Even more than that... being told that he was a part of someone's happiest moment, Doe felt just as happy as he had when he'd flown.
"Anyway, there's plenty of time for you to think of a new dream. For now, let's eat."
Nodding, Doeteain began to munch happily on the delicious food that was strewn across the table. He managed to eat more slowly than he had the previous night, though it was still pretty hard not to scarf down everything in front of him. He didn't know if, had he chosen to stay in Vysvada, he would ever have been able to get used to a dinner like this.
"Hey, Doe..." Niya said, once they'd both finished their meals. "Do you want to dance?"
Doeteain blinked at him. "I don't... I've never danced before," he said, shaking his head. He'd only ever seen a couple of Ciimre's events, at that, and that had been years ago. Not to mention, those had been entirely different from this dinner. They had been very obviously political, and the laughter and jokes were all falsified joy. Here at Vysvada... well, it seemed genuinely cheerful, almost unsettlingly so.
"Besides," Doeteain said, "I-I'm barely good at walking..."

"I don't... I've never danced before," Doe stuttered, shaking his head. "Besides, I-I'm barely good at walking."
"Dancing is way easier than walking," Niya said, quickly standing and grabbing Doe's hands, pulling him up and half-dragging him out onto the dance floor. The place was super crowded, so he hoped that that would help take some of the pressure off. Nobody would notice them out of the mass of people there having a blast. "And it's easier because with walking, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. With dancing, it's literally just...feel the beat," Niya grabbed Doe's hands. "And go with it!"
And then they were off, twirling and spinning and leaping and jumping. Niya wasn't all that graceful. He was certainly no troll, of course, but he wasn't nearly as graceful as elves or anything like that. Still, even as the heat grew with the activity and general crowdedness of the place, the sweat forming on his brow, he danced and danced with Doeteain.
And the smile never once left his face. Yep. This was definitely his happiest moment, and he didn't even know what it was about it that made it so damn special.

Condir watched Doeteain return to his friend, fighting the sadness that he felt trying to fester. Doeteain may have been beautiful and charming, but Condir hadn't known him for very long. It wouldn't be difficult to live without him, but he still felt like he was mourning the loss of someone dear to him. He could only pray that Niya would hold the boy even closer in his heart than Condir already did. So long as Doeteain was well taken care of, he couldn't argue in the least; seeing the boy smile was treasure enough.
Sighing, Condir returned to sit next to his twin, casting him a look. Elhadron had noticed; there was no doubt about that. He noticed everything. Condir wasn't incredibly imperceptive, himself, but he tended to be easily blinded, particularly when he saw someone as astounding as Doeteain.
"You could have told me," he said, his voice even. This wasn't the first time Elhadron had let him make a fool of himself. He really should have expected it by now. "Or do you enjoy watching me chase after someone else's love?"
His face pleasantly neutral, Condir sat back in his seat, his eyes scanning the crowd. Aside from the pirates, he could name most of the people in the sea of faces, both inhabitants of Vysvada and otherwise. After nearly two and a half millennia, one didn't see many new faces. Eventually, his eyes landed on one of the Ladies of Vysvada. He supposed at the very least, it would make his mother happy to see them dancing.
"I think I shall ask Baineth to dance," he told his twin. "You should make an attempt at merriment, yourself. Your dreariness lately is going to be the death of us all."

Elhadron took a sip of his elven wine, the finest in all the land, watching the festivities. He'd never been much for dancing. He was the clumsiest elf in all of Creation, so really, it was for the best that he stayed seated and out of the way.
Suddenly, Condir came over, looking none too pleased. Elhadron tried to hide his smirk and was moderately successful.
"You could have told me. Or do you enjoy watching me chase after someone else's love?"
"I will not lie--it gives me great pleasure watching you make a fool of yourself," Elhadron returned, his eyes twinkling at his twin's expense. If it had been more serious, he probably wouldn't be so glib about it. In fact, he cared a great deal for Connie. More-so than he cared for anyone, really. If Condir's heart had truly been broken, then of course he'd be there to pick up the pieces...and also kill whoever had done the breaking. But in this situation? He didn't see a need to take it all too seriously.
"I think I shall ask Baineth to dance," Condir said a moment later, "You should make an attempt at merriment, yourself. Your dreariness lately is going to be the death of us all."
"If only I could be so lucky! Ah, to be rid of your excessive flirting and goofing off...what a dream!" Elhadron said, taking another sip of his wine. "But you may wish to save yourself the trouble--Baineth is 'secretly' engaged to Geliron. And of course, since it is secret, everybody knows it but you and perhaps her father."
Elhadron set his wine glass on the table and stood, straightening out his clothing. "However, I hear Celethwen broke up with Haldrin and is in need of some...comfort. In any case, I think I will retire to my chambers. See you on the morrow, dear Connie!"
El waved at his twin before setting off out of the festivities hall and to his private rooms. He was exhausted, and sleep sounded very pleasing to him. Besides, Condir had been right about one thing--his dreariness would be the death of everyone if he remained in attendance at the feast.

((I figured that since you'd started attempting to post again, I might as well finally do Doe's post. XDD Sorry I kept putting it offffff. <3))
"Dancing is way easier than walking," Niya said. He quickly stood, ignoring Doeteain's protests, and grabbed Doe's hands to drag him out into the middle of the room. They disappeared into the crowd, and Doeteain began to feel very distinctly sick; he had never really liked crowds. "And it's easier because with walking, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. With dancing, it's literally just...feel the beat, and go with it!"
Niya began dancing, and he didn't give Doeteain the option not to. They danced until Doeteain felt like his legs were going to give out any second and then some. The heat was beginning to get to Doeteain, as well as how cramped he felt, but he tried not to let that bother him; the broad smile on Niya's face kept him content enough, even despite the atmosphere around them.
One well-known fact about the Evariic was that they possessed a natural sort of elegance. It didn't hold much of a candle to the elves of Vysvada, of course, but it was there nonetheless, and it was a very different sort of grace. While the elves moved fluidly-- an eternity was apparently plenty enough time to learn to master control of one's body-- the Evariic's native dances often involved sudden movements that tended to look jerky if attempted by anyone else.
Doeteain possessed very little of this elegance, which was to be expected considering his limited time on his feet. After one particular spin, Doeteain felt his legs go weak, and he crashed into Niya.
His breath caught in his throat, and they were so close now that he was sure Niya must have felt it. Their noses were almost touching, and there didn't seem to be a hair's worth of distance between their torsos. Although Doeteain had come to terms with the fact that he didn't mind close quarters if it were Niya, this was the closest they'd been, and it still made him blush. As he rediscovered the ability to inhale, a wave of fire-- luckily, not actual fire-- swept over him, startling him into reality.
"I-- um-- s-sorry," he managed, his voice barely a whisper. He took a few stumbling steps backward, tripping over his own feet; luckily, he didn't quite fall. How embarrassing would that be? He swallowed the dry lump in his throat as his eyes found their way to the ground. "I-I think... I'm going to t-take a break," he said quietly. The moment the words were out of his mouth, he turned and quickly wound his way through the crowd.
The cool air hit him like a wall when he stepped outside, and he breathed it in slowly as his mind churned. What was that fire he'd felt? He'd never felt anything like it. The mere memory of it sent a shudder through him, and he realized with a start that his skin was still tingling from it. Was he sick? He didn't know what else could possibly cause that...
A strange sight suddenly caught him off-guard.
Doeteain flexed his fingers, staring at them curiously. It hadn't been visible inside, and even in the relative darkness outside, it was still almost indistinguishable, but... It was only his fingertips, nothing more, but that didn't make the matter any less odd; there was just the slightest orange glow beneath his skin. Slowly, he touched his thumb to his middle finger.
A flash of fire erupted, and Doeteain jumped, quickly quashing the flames by shaking his hand violently. That had never happened before... He'd made fire before, yes, but never so suddenly, and certainly never without a lot of intent behind it. It usually took every brain cell he had concentrating on it. So why did that just happen?
Things were just getting weird now.

Niya couldn't contain his joy.
He wasn't the most amazing dancer. Far from it, actually. But he loved the reckless abandon of it, and he loved doing it with someone like Doeteain. He was something special, that was for sure. Something about him got under a person's skin. It was inevitable, he supposed, that anybody who came in contact with him liked him.
Although, given his history, some people were immune to that charm, but not Niya. Just being this close to the Evariic...he was even more elated than usual when dancing.
In fact, as they danced, Niya was laughing and grinning. He didn't mind the heat or the crowd--all he really saw was Doe.
Suddenly, the Evariic stumbled into him and Niya caught him. They were so close...closer than Niya could remember ever being to anyone. His breath hitched suddenly in his chest, and he found his eyes wandering to the full, pouting lips. He wondered what those lips would feel like against his. His eyes beginning to close instinctively, Niya briefly licked his lips and leaned forward imperceptibly...
And then Doeteain broke away, blushing a bright crimson. Niya's own face heated up as he realized what he'd been about to do. Wouldn't that be taking advantage of him...? Almost definitely. Niya was instantly ashamed.
Doe stumbled backwards, nearly tripping and Niya started forward, intent on catching him should his footing fail, but Doeteain managed to keep his feet. "I-- um-- s-sorry," he managed, his voice barely a whisper. "I-I think... I'm going to t-take a break."
Before Niya could say anything, Doeteain was weaving through the crowd, heading to the door. Should he follow after him...?
Niya ran a hand through his hair. He should probably apologize for making the Evariic uncomfortable. It hadn't been his intention, that was for sure.
Taking a deep breath, Niya quickly made his way through the crowd and headed out the door.
A sudden flash of orange lit up the night and Niya nearly tripped into the door as he realized that it had been fire, and that the fire was on Doe's hands...but it hadn't burned him. In fact, Doe seemed to have been the cause of the fire. Magic fire...
Suddenly, Niya was assaulted with a multitude of images. A large, shadowy figure, advancing towards him. He had been small...no older than 12. His sister had gone away, and his parents were dead...The shadowy figure in his mind suddenly seemed to grow a large ball of fire in his hand and the hand flew towards him, headed to his chest...
Niya gasped and brought a hand up to his mouth to stifle the sound, his heartbeat seeming to do double time. What had that been...? A waking nightmare...?
Or...no. It was a memory. He knew that now.
Swallowing thickly and trying not to cry at the sudden recollection--after all, Doeteain was not the shadowy figure and he wasn't going to hurt him...plus, he didn't want to seem like a whimp in front of him--Niya slowly advanced towards Doe. Only when he was sure the fire was gone did he actually draw up to the other.
"I...I---uh...I didn't know you could do that. Make fire, that is....has that...erm...always been like that?"

"I...I---uh...I didn't know you could do that. Make fire, that is....has that...erm...always been like that?"
Doeteain jumped at the voice; his heart skipped a beat. That wasn't healthy, was it? Lowering his hand, he swallowed and turned to look at Niya. Or, well, at the ground in front of Niya's feet, because that was as high as he could manage to bring his gaze.
"It, uh... it's... complicated," was all Doeteain could think to say at first. He swallowed again, but the lump in his throat didn't seem to want to diminish. Very carefully, he wiped his hands on the borrowed shirt, cautious not to let any of his fingers touch in case they were up to igniting once more. "U-usually, I... I have to want it. The fire. B-but I didn't. It just... happened," Doeteain tried to explain, but he didn't think he was doing a very good job of it.
The fire... he wondered if it had anything to do with what he'd felt earlier. Was it possible that he'd fallen ill, and the side effect had something to do with spontaneous combustion? That didn't seem very likely. And besides, he didn't feel sick. He felt very much the opposite, in fact. But what had happened, then? It wasn't nothing; of that much, Doe was positive.
They'd just been dancing, and then he'd stumbled. But the fire hadn't come until... until he'd realized how close he was to Niya. Was that it, then? And if it were, what did that mean? Niya didn't make him want to set anything on fire... Well, it seemed like there was an easy way to find out if Niya was why he seemed to be bursting with fire suddenly. Now, if he could only manage to look the other boy in the eye.
"Niya, do you think that... I mean, have you ever..." Doe stopped trying to form a question when he realized he didn't know what he was trying to ask. Instead, he just bit his lip and contemplated raising his eyes. It shouldn't have been so hard, just looking at Niya, so why was it? It wasn't, Doe told himself; he was just being overdramatic. Finally, he managed to raise his eyes to Niya's.
He breathed a sigh of relief when nothing happened. He wasn't sure what he'd thought would happen, but at least it was nothing. Now, though... he still had to find out if the close proximity to Niya was what had caused the minor freak-out.
"Niya, don't... panic, okay?" Doeteain said quietly, moving to stand closer; he knew Niya didn't like magic, but it wasn't as if it were his fault. Aside from the flying-- his only dream for as long as he could remember-- he'd never intentionally used any sort of magic in front of Niya. At least, not once he'd known.
He took small steps until they were standing almost chest-to-chest, like earlier. Almost immediately, Doe felt it; it felt like he was on fire, but it didn't hurt. It was the strangest thing... Slowly, Doeteain lowered his face, so that he was more or less talking to Niya's shoulder.
"I... it's weird," he said. "I feel... different, somehow. But-- it's only around you, I think." He smiled slightly, lacing his fingers through Niya's. "You're... more special than you seem to think."
